
Serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D2 and 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (collectively referred to as 25-hydroxyvitamin D) are indicators of vitamin D nutritional status. Reports have suggested that these two forms of vitamin D may differ in biological activity and bioavailability.
Studies have shown that low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D are associated with a variety of diseases, including osteomalacia in adults, rickets in children, tumors, autoimmune diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic syndrome. Therefore, vitamin D testing has been widely used in clinical practice.
