
Steroid hormones are a class of lipid-soluble small-molecule hormones synthesized from cholesterol through a series of enzymatic reactions. They are mainly classified into adrenocortical hormones and sex hormones, and play important roles in maintaining normal endocrine function, regulating sexual function, growth and development, immune regulation, and reproduction.
Abnormal increases or decreases in steroid hormone levels are closely associated with various clinical disorders, including congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endocrine disorders, adrenal cortical dysfunction, and deficiencies of 3-, 17-, and 21-hydroxylases. Individual steroid hormones function as interconnected nodes within the metabolic network. Comprehensive profiling of hormone levels throughout the upstream and downstream pathways provides valuable information for disease diagnosis and monitoring of endocrine status.
Currently, chemiluminescent immunoassay is the primary method for hormone testing in China. However, it is susceptible to non-specific antigen-antibody interference when measuring low-concentration hormones, which may compromise accuracy. This product employs LC-MS/MS to simultaneously quantify multiple steroid hormones with high sensitivity, high specificity, and excellent accuracy. Major clinical laboratories in the United States, such as Quest Diagnostics and Mayo Clinic, widely utilize LC-MS/MS for hormone testing.
