This assay is intended for the in vitro quantitative determination of Type IV Collagen in human serum or plasma as an aid in clinical diagnosis.
Type IV Collagen is an important biomarker for evaluating liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. Serum Type IV Collagen concentrations correlate closely with the degree of hepatic fibrosis and can therefore assist clinicians in assessing the severity of liver cirrhosis.
Type IV Collagen-specific antibodies are directionally immobilized onto latex microparticles. During the reaction, Type IV Collagen present in the sample specifically binds to the corresponding antibodies in the reagent, forming antigen-antibody immune complexes in the liquid phase. This reaction produces an increase in turbidity, which is significantly amplified by the latex particles to improve assay sensitivity.
The increase in turbidity is directly proportional to the concentration of Type IV Collagen in the sample. By comparing the measured turbidity with that of a calibrated standard, the concentration of Type IV Collagen in the serum or plasma specimen can be quantitatively determined.
